Top Ten...err Five Vacations for Book Lovers

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the awesome ladies at The Broke and the Bookish.

Two of my biggest passions in life are reading and traveling. Since this week's TTT is a freebie post, I decided to combine these two great loves of mine. After pondering for a while, I came up with the Top Ten Vacations for Book Lovers. Of course, this list is just my opinion! If you know of other bookish vacations, please let me know! I can never have too many vacations to pine over and plan for the future!

1. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Orlando, FL
Visiting The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is an essential experience for all Harry Potter fans, both young and not so young. Where else can you actually tour the castle, buy candy from Honeydukes, taste authentic butter beer, visit Zonko's joke shop, choose a wand, and experience amazing rides all in one place?! I visited the Wizarding World on Thanksgiving day 2010, and it was MADNESS - pure MADNESS. Luckily, I was able to ride the key ride and walk around a bit, but I didn't get to tour any of the shops or get the full experience. I will definitely be going back!

2. New York City

There are so many amazing things for book lovers to do in NYC that I don't even know where to begin!
-  If you want to rest in luxary while visiting the city, you might think about booking a room at The Library Hotel. Each floor of the hotel is based on a category of the Dewey Decimal System.
- Stop by The Strand, an 18 MILE long bookstore! They have both new and rare books. I'd been to NYC twice before I learned about the strand. Now I want to go back ASAP so I can browse until I pass out.
- If you happen to visit the city in June and are a book blogger, you can attend Book Expo America ... and then tell me all about it!

3. Colorado Springs, CO

Okay, so Colorado Springs doesn't actually have any major attractions for book lovers, BUT it is a gorgeous place to spend a weekend reading books. My boyfriend and I will be moving there next year, after I finish my master's degree.

4. London, England
  • Tour the Sherlock Holmes Museum
  • Stop by Shakespeare's Globe Theater
  • Visit Waterstone's Bookstore in Piccadilly Circus. They carry over 150,000 titles!
  • Walk along Charring Cross Road, which is known for its wide array of used and specialty book stores. Sounds like the perfect street to me!
5. Prince Edward Island, Canada
www.winesofcanada.com

Ah, Prince Edward Island - home of Anne of Green Gables, the famous children's series by L.M. Montgomery. I didn't know about this wonderful series when I was a kid, but the audiobooks got me through some tough times as an adult. The scenery described sounded absolutely beautiful, and I'd love to visit PEI someday and see the sights for myself.
  • Visit Avonlea Village, a theme park or reenactment of sorts for fans of all things Anne
  • Tour the Anne of Green Gables Museum
  • Attend Anne of Green Gables - the Musical
  • Stroll along the lake of shining waters

There are so many bookish travel spots that I'd love to talk about, but my head is pounding and I need to put away the computer :( Have you visited any of the vacation spots I mentioned? If so, please let me know!

  4. Ooo! Our posts kind of go together. I discussed books that take me on a vacation. I love your post! I was just in NYC a little over a year ago, and also did not know about The Strand. Lame. And that hotel you mentioned!?!?! I wish I'd known about it! So fun! Thanks for your list. :) You're giving me the travel bug!

  5. I love your topic, it's wonderful! I'd love to go to NYC, not least for The Strand but given I'm halfway over the other side of the world (Australia!) it's very unlikely. Unless I end up magically rich!

  7. What a fun idea for a list! Sadly the only places I have been from your list are NYC and Colorado. I agree, if you can find the right literary spots in NYC it is so fun and rich in culture! Colorado is absolutely gorgeous and there are so many places to curl up and read! I would LOVE to move there! I want to visit every other place on here, especially England. I love me some Shakespeare!

  9. I've been to London for a weekend with my non-reader other-half. He wouldn't let me go in any bookstores, let alone Waterstones. What a party pooper!

  10. And don't forget about visiting Platform 9 3/4 in London! :)

I love this list idea. I really want to go to BEA sometime!

  11. LOVE this idea! So much fun. I'm dying to go to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter! Also I would just love to visit Prince Edward Island. I think that NYC and London are two of the top spots, since they're probably the two most popular city settings (at least that I read). I live in NY myself, and about died when I read about The Library Hotel. I hadn't heard of that before! I asked the bf to take me, but he's decided that since we already live here it may be a wee bit impractical. Maybe I'll just go in sometime? I've been to London as well, but it was a quick trip and I was only 17, so I'd love to go back. I love Colorado Springs too, I almost went to Colorado College back in the day, but ended up elsewhere. I hope you love it there!

    1. Maybe you can tour the hotel and then decide id you'd be intetested in staying there for a special occasion.

Colorado College has such a pretty campus. I've been to CS twice and loved it. I'm going badk in February and April. It's so much nicer there than in Louisiana. I'm not meant for hot, humid weather hahah

  12. Yes! The World World was an awesome vacation for a Harry Potter lover. I went in September 2010, which coincidentally I also mentioned in my top ten this week. Luckily there was one day that we were there that barely had any lines. It was a blast.

Awesome idea for a top ten!

    1. Oh man, that must have been amazing. I want to book a package that allows early admittance before the park officially opens for the day. Someday!

  13. Whoa! That's crazy that Colorado Springs made it onto your list. I've been there a few times to visit my brother, and my mom has actually been considering moving out that way too. It really is a beautiful place!

I'd love to visit the other places on your list too. Especially the Wizarding World of Harry Potter! It seems like it would be a HP fan's dream come true.
